That Little Black Dress

Popularized by french designer Coco Chanel in the 1920s, the classic black dress is considered by many women one of the most important elements in a female wardrobe. Designed to fit in all different kind of bodies and functional like its creator wanted fashion to be, the little black dress can dress us from morning to evening, depending on what kind of accessories you pick.

The little black dress was glorified in the movie Breakfast at Tiffany's (1961) by the unforgettable Audrey Hepburn, who dressed it with pearls, long gloves and large sunglasses. Though very simple and effortless, the essence of Hepburn's style can't be copied and reproduced. In the words of designer Michael Kors, women wear things that they just take for granted, but without Audrey Hepburn they probably wouldn't be wearing them.

One year before Audrey window shopped at Tiffany's, voluptuous sweedish actress Anita Ekberg worn a glamorous strapless and velvet black gown and bathed herself in the Fontana de Trevi observed by Marcello Mastroianni in Frederico Fellini's La Dolce Vita (1960).

In the above pictures, some of the 1990s version of the black dress: Claudia Schiffer in YSL catwalk and Christy Turlington in a Valentino campaign. Two of my fav supermodels of all time.

A couple of months ago i was invited to a certain party and i had no idea of what to wear. After two days of unsuccessful searching i finally found this Karen Millen dress in a department store in Århus. A black dress wasn't my first choice, but in the end it seemed the best decision. The price wasn't so inviting but it was worth it, because i know i'm going to be wearing it for a long time.

You look amazing! I bet you almost got into trouble at that party because of that dress. ^^

The classic black dress makes every woman feel great. It focuses on the person wearing it.

Romeika, toda mulher que se preze tem que ter um vestido preto no guarda-roupa.

Adorei as fotos que ilustraram o post, especialmente a primeira. Nicole Kidman está deslumbrante.

The lipstick lady: Thanks!;-) Nicole looks stunning in that picture, what a tiny little waist she has!

Kamila, o que seria de nós, mulheres, sem aquele pretinho básico que nos salva em muitas ocasiões:-p Nicole está lindíssima nessa sessão de fotos, queria saber pra qual revista ela posou. Abs! ^^
