"The first day of spring is one thing, and the first spring day is another. The difference between them is sometimes as great as a month." (Henry Van Dyke)
Early spring was colder than the entire winter, it even snowed a bit! This picture was taken outside the Lousiana Museum of Modern Art, a place worth seeing in all seasons, although one does enjoy it better when it's warm. I'm wearing a heavy winter coat, tights, socks, oxford shoes, a wool scarf and a warm cloche hat, nevertheless, I was cold! This is winter - part 2.
April "The sun was warm but the wind was chill. You know how it is with an April day." (Robert Frost) And so it's spring! Although most of trees are still barren, the lovely sunshine and the fact it's getting dark around 8pm makes a huge difference. White and yellow flowers slowly start blossoming from the ground adorning the grass, people moderately begin to leave their winter garments behind. It's still chilly enough for tights and ballet flats. Picture taken around Kronborg castle.

"Spring is not the best of seasons. Cold and flu are two good reasons; wind and rain and other sorrow, warm today and cold tomorrow." (Unknown Author)
It's practically summer, and who would have said so. Danish weather is constantly playing tricks with us. It can turn out in an awful or a delightful surprise though. Friday, saturday and sunday were so hot that people were tanning at the city parks. Dressing up becomes so simple and makes one feel so free, but at the same time, it can turn out quite boring. Perhaps a great bag, gorgeous earrings, killing sunglasses or even cute sandals would make a difference... However, I didn't come with anything very interesting. I had forgotten I had these flat sandals, which I hadn't worn for nearly a year. Comfortable enough to walk long distances, after all, even ballet flats are too hot when the temperature reaches 25 C. Right now the wind blows desperately, the sky is grey, and tomorrow won't be "summer" anymore. Before coming to Denmark, I never watched or read the weather forecast in order to decide what I'm going to wear the next day and the next day and the next day... Yes, one never really knows what to expect.

i know exactly what you mean about spring. minnesota has certainly been a rollercoaster as always, but it seems worse this year- snow one day, beach temps the next, highwinds...blegh. i think its raining tomorrow, something that should've happened in april, but we're a total month behind haha
ooo doing a post on adultery in film would've been awesome, since you proposed it you're totally welcome to do it hehe :) and yes i did read the painted veil first and for once the book was worse than the film. the film was much happier, i mean even if he does either way, its so much better with some reconcialiation on their part. plus the addition of the revolution made it more intriguing. finally, it was just pretty. the book itself was rather poetic, but it didn't do justice to the scenery. the ending was probably my favorite scene, when she gives charlie the stick up in town with her son, it was a very girl power moment! one that i'm not quite sure the kitty of the book would've done, because at the end of the novel she seems to lost and weary
It is bit similar situation in London. Weather put a great test on our wardrobe styling! You have to have everything handy, but I really think you made it beautifully!
Particularly, your cloth somehow always match your romantic background... so pretty. I especially love the second picture. I always think a girl who can carry yellow and grey well is super stylish! Your eye for colour is incredible :)
It's easy for me to say I love the different seasons, because where I live, outside of San Francisco, the weather is always mild. People complain it's too cold in winter, and too hot in summer, but really it's never extreme.
Mark Twain said the coldest winter he ever spent was a summer in San Francisco, or something like that, because in summer the City gets a marine layer of cool air from the ocean. Locals like to call it natural air conditioning.
You said a few months ago that Denmark had nice parks and restaurants, but nobody ever went out. I think I know why:
I've never been to Denmark, but I've been to Holland and Germany in winter. Well, winter except for January and February. I suspect those are the months you just want to lie under feather blankets and hibernate.
I bet more Danes are born in October and November than anytime during the rest of the year.
Am I right? Ha!
Jayne, it does seem a lot worse in Minnesota! Hope the spring comes to you soon:-) As for the book and the film, we have the same point of view, I also love that scene in the end, such a strong and dignified Kitty! The book was a little disappointing, I'm glad the movie script turned out differently. And you can do the post about adultery if u want. Right now I dont have so many ideas in mind.. Perhaps "Damage", "Little Children..", what else?:)
Times of Glory: Thanks! I really love to add colour in my wardrobe, especially during winter when everything is so grey, sometimes even sad. When the weather becomes a cheerful spring, it's even a better excuse to add colours, like yellow. And the weather does put a great test on what we wear!
Seraphine, I never figured out what Mark Twain meant by that quote, I'm glad you explained it to me. I really thought San Francisco was as warm as cities like LA, but I was mistaken, then. It seems like it never reaches any extreme, neither cold nor hot. It sounds great! Right now in DK people do join the outdoors, but during winter it's not common, no.. You know that you're right about this birth thing?!? hahahaha
I think Seattle is about a month behind--it still feels like April though it's May. Sigh.
i adore spring because the wet, cloudy days make the REAL spring days so much sweeter.
Interesting evolution..I love your red coat. It's so good to hear that the weather in getting better over there. Here it is entirely crazy...sometimes is really hot and suddenly it starts to rain. I don't have problems with rain but I hate when it comes and I'm unprepared.
Ambika, it seems like the weather is crazy everywhere these days, it must the global warming:-S
Copperoranges, I agree with u, we wouldn't value the warm days if it wasn't for the previous months of adversities.
Olimpia, it uses to be like that in my hometown in Brazil, so I used to carry an umbrella everywhere. But then when I didn't have one with me, it suddenly started raining!
In summer, the marine (ocean) air flows over San Francisco, so it is easily cooler than Los Angeles. It's as famous for having summer "fog" as it is for the hundreds of colorful boats sailing in the bay, cable cars and steep hills.
Every year, in June typically, the winds reverse and hot air comes from the inland east. The temperature soars and it gets hot hot hot. It's a little early this year. Tomorrow we might set a new heat record for this early in the year.
I'll look forward for the fog to come back again.
The hot inland air typically only lasts a couple of weeks, then we are back in normal summer mode: hot days and cool nights.
Seraphine, having "fog" during summer is indeed quite remarkable! San Francisco must have pretty unique seasons.. Interesting.
