Four Fashion Decades in Four Movies

1920s
The Changeling (2008) -
I don't know if Clint Eastwood's next film is finished by now, but these photos were taken in the set, showing Angelina Jolie in three typical 1920s elements: The cloche hat, the charleston shoes and most important of all, a huge coat, which used to be essencial due to the light garments women wore at that time. It's been a while we haven't seen Mrs. Pitt in short hair, I sort of like how she looks here. More (and official) The Changeling movie photos can be seen here.

Leatherheads (2008) - It's Renée Zellweger in George Clooney's newest film, which happens to be a romantic comedy. It's weird how "the beauty" looks so remarkably different in the movie photos and in its trailer (See it here).

Here Renée looks more like 1930s/40s glam with these golden locks. It's very much like a Veronica Lake thing, which is not so 1920s

1930s & 1940s
Atonement (2007) -
The film everyone has seen but me, as it won't open here before february 22 (I know, it's awful!). As I've read the book, which starts in a hot evening in the 1930s, I can only guess that's the dress Cecilia Tallis (Keira Knightley) wears in the evening she and Robbie Turner will meet in the library, under the eyes of Briony (Saoirse Ronan). During the war times her wardrobe must be completely changed, it's time for oxford shoes and more utilitary shapes and materials.

1950s

Revolutionary Road (2008) - It's the talented Kate Winslet back to the suburbs as a housewife in Sam Mendes (American Beauty) newest film. It wouldn't be 1950s without the not utilitary gloves, but I wonder if she's wearing any hats at all. Overall, Winslet looks great in these outfits as she resembles the curvy body shape women had at that time.

Romeika, as filmagens de "The Changeling" já terminaram, sim. Bem conservadores esses figurinos da Angelina Jolie.

ECA para Renee Zellweger! :-)

Great post! I really want to see Atonement - I heard it was a great movie! I haven't heard of Renee's movie yet. I've seen pics of Angelina's movie, and I love her look in that movie.

I love retro style in films (and life). Amazing post, finding all these films for the different periods. Angelina looks interesting, I'm not quite used to her looking like that.

Modern Marie, definitely! I love love love "Marie Antoinette" in these matters ^^

Lady N, I love Angelina's look as well, I have a weakness for the 1920s Fashion..:-) You should see "Atonement", it's been out there for quite a while ^^

The Clothes Horse: I love it too, more in others than in myself though. And yeah, this is a very different look for Angelina.

Thanks, everyone!:-)

I was going to say, I love period clothes in films, but now I have to say, OH MY GOD THEY'RE MAKING REVOLUTIONARY ROAD INTO A FILM?!?!?! That is one of my favorite books ever.

Heather, I didn't even know it was a book, but it seems like it'll be a good film. Good director, plus Kate Winslet and Leo DiCaprio (they play the couple). I'm looking forward for it!

Oh goody, I've found your blog again (bad incident with the computer lost me my bookmarks).
The costumes all look fantastic, the green Atonement dress especially- it's exactly as it was described in the book which is why I love it even more. And I'm excited for Revolutionary Road- it'll be interesting to see what Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet are like after ten years.

Romeika said...

Kamila, que bom, então!:-)

Hi Blue Floppy Hat, welcome back;-)
I'm really looking forward to see Kate and Leo together again, and in a totally different film. Can't wait! ^^

Amazing post. I adore the photos and am glad to see some upcoming movies I might actually want to see.

Ambika, Thanks!:-) I really wanna see three of them, not only for the story, acting etc, but for the costumes as well.

Sorry but I don't like Angelina's look. I didno't imagine Cecilias dress like that. I love my imagination, haha

How did I miss this?! I love film's set in the post-1960's and I'm glad I caught this post so I know which films to look out for! Kate Winslet is so beautiful and such a wonderful actress, I wish she would choose more roles so we could see more of her!

Meg, I think the same about Kate Winslet, it would be great to see her in the movies more often;-)
